Introducing Monica: Blue Kinabalu’s CEO & Director
Monica is Blue Kinabalu’s CEO and Director. She is a proud Sabahan and was initially educated in KK before moving to Taiwan to continue her studies, where she gained her BA from the University of Taipei.
Monica is Multi-Lingual
Monica is fluent in six languages, including English, Japanese, Malay, Mandarin, Hakka, and Cantonese, and is currently learning Korean, so it’s very likely that as a Blue Kinabalu Travel guest, Monica will be able to communicate with you wherever in the world your home is!
A very experienced travel industry professional
Monica has over 40 years of experience in the travel industry promoting Japan, where she spent the majority of her professional career, and she is an expert in all things Japanese, including language, history, culture, and, of course, the best places to visit, eat, and shop!
Monica tells her story in her own words:
“After spending many years overseas, I wanted to come home to Sabah, start my own travel business, and promote our lovely Sabah! Apart from encouraging visitors to Sabah via our Borneo Sabah tours, my focus is on providing quality and fun overseas tours for Sabahans to visit Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand, and we will shortly expand our destinations to include Europe, the USA, South America, and Australia. My team and I pride ourselves on providing our guests the highest levels of customer service and look forward to seeing you and meeting you either as a visitor to Sabah or on one of our outbound tours”.
Introducing Martin: Blue Kinabalu’s General Manager
Martin is Blue Kinabalu’s General Manager and is based in Blue Kinabalu’s Head Office in Kota Kinabalu, handling the responsibility of guests visiting Sabah. Martin’s original hometown is Windsor, Berks, and he spent 32 years and most of his professional career with British Airways, working in a number of different management roles.
Martin’s local Sabah connections
Martin first visited Sabah in 2001 and has been coming back ever since. He married a local Sabahan in KK in 2003. When he is not working, Martin likes to spend time with family or ride his road bike (rather slowly!) up into the hills to the rainforest above KK.
Martin’s love for everything about Sabah:
“From the first time I visited KK and Sabah, I fell in love with the place and have returned regularly ever since. The natural beauty, rainforest, wildlife, exoticness, climate, and culinary delights are all wonderful reasons to visit or live in Sabah, and the fulfillment of climbing to the summit of 14,000 feet Mount Kinabalu was immense. However, the local welcoming and friendly Sabahans make Sabah even more special”.
Martin’s always planning the next new country to visit
“I have always loved to travel and have visited over 70 countries to date, so after my career in the airline industry, it felt a natural fit to be part of the Blue Kinabalu team arranging tours within Sabah and meeting our guests. I want to share my passion for Sabah and delivering outstanding customer service for you, your family and friends".

Blue Kinabalu Travel Agency: Inbound Tour Packages
For visitors to Sabah, we offer many different options!
Sabah Private Tour Package
Our specialty is arranging exciting Private Tours. We always emphasize safety and quality, underpinned by outstanding customer service. We love to provide our guests with unique experiences and show them what lies beyond the beaten track, including Sabah’s many ‘must-visit’ locations.
Sabah Private Tour focussed on the guest’s wishes and needs.
We pride ourselves on responding positively to our guests' requests and, most importantly, arranging a tour around our guests' new needs and wishes. Maybe your party includes an elder with reduced mobility? Accordingly, we will suggest an itinerary that is mindful not to include too much walking. You may be traveling with three young children. We will ensure the holiday contains fun activities that balance education, adventure and play. Or is one of your party celebrating a birthday?
If so, we will ensure that the day is marked uniquely.
Ensuring our guests enjoy interesting, quality cuisine as part of the Sabah Private Tour
For all our guests, cuisine is essential, and we will arrange Malay, Chinese, Indian, Western, and Vegetarian restaurants loved by locals that Blue Kinabalu team members regularly frequent.
Fulfilling Special Requests is our specialty.
Want to charter a speedboat and enjoy an Island-Hopping ‘Private Tour’ while taking in some exhilarating water sports or charter an early morning helicopter flight to view majestic Mount Kinabalu? No problem: we have the contacts and know-how to arrange it.
How about a visit to the best locations to view proboscis monkeys in the wild, or spot some of Sabah’s 270 species of birds, or view the Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower that is very elusive and only blooms for four (good) days? We have a network of wildlife experts, birders, and kampung (village) locals on standby, ready to provide the latest information.
Are you visiting Kota Kinabalu on a Cruise Liner?
One day is not enough (!), but if you’re visiting Kota Kinabalu for just a day on a Cruise Liner, we’d love to meet and greet you off the ship and maximise your time on shore. We'll immerse you in local culture, landmarks, and cuisine and take you to the best places for souvenir shopping, ensuring you arrive back at the port in good time for your departure.
Corporate Team Building in Sabah
If you’re a corporate customer, we would love to welcome you and your team to Kota Kinabalu. We have an excellent partner who has many years experience delivering outstanding team building. We take pride in facilitating fun and thought-provoking sessions away from the office in fantastic settings, including Pulau (islands) and in the kampung (beautiful villages high in the hills above KK). After the team building, we’ll happily arrange fun activities, e.g., water sports/river cruises/restaurants with local cultural music and dance entertainment.
2/3/4 Day Package Tours within Sabah
We also offer 2/3/4 day tours within Sabah, including:
Climb Mount Kinabalu
Visit the world-famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, followed by an overland journey by road/boat to a River Lodge on the Kinabatangan River, where you’ll spend 2/3 days looking for wildlife and experiencing the jungle in a very civilized environment!
Overnight at Tip of Borneo, staying in a beachside villa to witness the amazing sunrise/sunset where the South China and Sulu Seas meet.
Stay in the precious and protected Danum Valley Conservation Area and search for wildlife on night safaris in the 130 million-year-old rainforest.
Overland road trip to the small rubber/coffee/cocoa/fruit producing town of Tenom in Borneo’s interior, including a ride on the “Jungle Railway”!
