Kinabalu National Park: Sample Itinerary

Pick-Up from Hotel (only Kota Kinabalu City area) 8 a.m. and it’s about a ninety minute drive to Nabalu Market where you can enjoy shopping for local handicrafts and fruit. Then onto Kinabalu National Park that’s proud to have been designated a ‘World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO in 2000, Kinabalu National Park is home to 4095m Mount Kinabalu and if it’s a clear day you may have the opportunity to see this majestic mountain, that’s the highest peak in south-east Asia.

The park is also home to the world’s most diverse array of flora and fauna with thousands of species to be found here. Noticeably cooler than Kota Kinabalu with an average temperature of 18C – 24C you can enjoy a 20-30 minute stroll through the National Park Botanical Garden, that’s in the midst of the rainforest and which contains many rare pitcher plants and orchids that you may see, dependent on blooming.

After lunch it’s then a 50 minute drive to Poring Hot Spring where there’s an opportunity to visit Poring Canopy Walkway. At 158m long and some 40m above the forest floor, this is a very rare opportunity to experience the rainforest canopy at close quarters up-close and personal. At the Hot Springs themselves you can take a refreshing dip in the sulphuric spring water in an open Japanese style bathtub.

Depart Poring Hot Spring at 4 p.m. arriving back at Hotel (only Kota Kinabalu City area) at 6:30 p.m. (dependent on traffic)
